Jungy Ryu is the Associate Nurse Unit Manager at Biloela Hospital. She oversees the Emergency Department and ward, ensuring staff are performing to their best, she does clinical tasks on the floor, passes on directions, and addresses patient feedback.

“It’s quite challenging, there are so many things to remember, but overall, I really enjoy the opportunity,” she said.

“I have to be resourceful, and I’ve learnt skills that I use outside of work, including how to be more assertive and confident.”

She especially enjoys implementing small steps that make a big difference to the workplace and enabling staff to take ownership of their work.

Jungy came to Biloela in 2021 as an agency nurse and she’s loving her work at the hospital.

“It’s not too busy, but it’s not too quiet. It’s just the right mix,” she said.

“We have our moments, but the team is very close, we respect each other’s differences, and we practise learning from each other.

“It’s the perfect example of a real rural generalist model where we must think outside the box and really have a broad range of skills. It’s fantastic.”

Jungy is also positive about living with the “zillions” of corellas that regularly visit trees outside the hospital.

“It teaches us to have patience, but we do co-exist.”
