CQ Health is undertaking a major recruitment drive to staff a new nurse-led clinic in Gladstone opening soon.
The nurse-led clinic will be another option for locals’ non-urgent health care emergencies, with easy access at Gladstone Central Shopping Centre (Gladstone Square) in Goondoon Street.
The walk-in clinic will be open every day and aims to reduce demand on Gladstone Hospital Emergency Department and local general practitioners by treating non-life-threatening injury and illness to everyone over the age of two.
It is designed to overcome the barrier to accessing healthcare for many Queenslanders, including women and girls This can include financial challenges, access to transport, as well as being able to attend clinics outside of work and school schedules.
That’s why the Miles Government committed $46 million as part of its Queensland Women and Girls’ Health Strategy 2032 to deliver nurse-led walk-in clinics in regions that need it most.
Patients will receive clinical assessment, treatment, and advice from qualified nursing staff for minor conditions such as colds, sprains, cuts, urinary tract infections, contraception and women’s health concerns.
Gladstone Director of Nursing Emma Pallot said this new clinic provided a wonderful opportunity for experienced nurses seeking to work autonomously to their full scope of practice and provide great care to the community.
“We’re looking for Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Clinical Nurses to provide this vital service to the Gladstone community,” she said.
“The hours are great, and successful applicants will undertake a four-week paid training program enabling them to work confidently in this style of health care.”
