Clinical Nurse Allison finds her work in Older Person’s Mental Health Inpatient Unit very rewarding.

She loves caring for older people and enjoys the challenge it brings.

“You’ve got to put yourself in their shoes and think you are here for them.

“You’re not just looking after the physical but also the psychological as well.

“These very vulnerable people need and deserve to be cared for.”

Allison has worked as an Assistant in Nursing in Wide Bay and was a hospital-trained Enrolled Nurse in Maryborough.

She completed her Registered Nurse studies in 2015 after caring for her mother during her end of life at the Gold Coast.

Allison is proud to be following in her mother’s footsteps, as she was a nursing sister and matron in aged care.

“Rockhampton Hospital has given me a lot of opportunities and I’m very grateful for that, to be able to grow as a nurse.

“We care about our patients here. We’ve got a good ward with a good team. We work well together, and we respect each other.

“You get good support and that reflects the way our consumers are.”

Allison believes Central Queensland is the best place in the world to live and work.

“It’s just gorgeous. The beaches are lovely, and we have Great Keppel Island. The sunrise this morning was just breath-taking.”

Allison says her best day would be going to the beach with her husband Lee and their best boy, three-year-old Border Collie Sammy.
