CQ Health is delighted to welcome a new Specialist Obstetrician/Gynaecologist to the team at Rockhampton Hospital.
Dr Shavi Govender joins a team of five specialist obstetrician/gynaecologists and nine specialists in training at Rockhampton, all with a passion for caring for women and families.
Dr Govender completed her medical studies at the University of Natal Medical School in South Africa in 2003 and gained Fellowship of the Colleges of Obstetrician Gynaecologists in South Africa in 2010.
She worked in private practice for 14 years, and she is enjoying her change into a public health service.
“I couldn’t have chosen a better place,” she said. “Every single person I’ve met since I’ve been here has embraced me, the medical staff, midwives and nurses, admin, cleaners, everybody has a heart. It’s amazing.
“This service is fantastically organised, multifaceted, and brimming with potential. I have been warmly welcomed and embraced by a fantastic, supportive work team and I am ecstatic to be a part of something so special.”
Since early in her medical school days Dr Govender knew Obstetrics and Gynaecology was for her.
“It is most satisfying when you can make a difference in somebody’s life. It doesn’t have to be a big thing, it can be as small as having a chat with someone, or as big as a surgery, it’s such a vast and enjoyable profession.”
Outside of work, Dr Govender loves to fish and to read, and cites Dr Seuss as her favourite author of all time.
