Rockhampton BreastScreen service has plugged into the very latest technology, installing a new state-of-the-art life-saving mammography machine.

The $300,000 Siemens Mammomat B.brilliant is a next generation mammography system that delivers uncompromised cancer detection, setting new standards in 3D image quality and patient comfort.

CQ Health Chief Executive Lisa Blackler said this latest technology supported early detection of cancer, enabling early treatment and therefore better health outcomes for women.

“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women, and regular breast screening is the best way to detect cancer early, before it can be seen or felt by a woman or her doctor.

“All women aged 40 and over are eligible for a free breast screen every two years, and this new machine makes it even better and faster.

“We are delighted to support women in our region to have this latest technology, and to make it even easier for our qualified radiographers.”

BreastScreen Rockhampton Chief Radiographer Joshna Govender said that, since the machine was installed last month, women had given extremely positive feedback.

“The new technology is much faster and has many new features, including mood lighting to enhance the client’s experience.”

About 13,000 women have a breast screen every year at the Rockhampton service.

Women aged 40 and over should book for their breast screen at www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au or call 13 20 50.

A doctor’s referral is not required, and appointments generally take less than 30 minutes.
