Smiling graduate dentist holding a toothbrush in a dental clinic room at Rockhampton Hospital

Dr Baseva (Grace) Rabo has plenty to boogie about this World Oral Health Day.

She’s just started work as a Graduate Dentist at Rockhampton Community Dental Clinic and is excited to be supporting the dental needs of Central Queenslanders.

She completed her studies at James Cook University in Cairns and moved to Rockhampton for the career opportunity.

“We get to work with a lot of oral health therapists and senior dentists. It’s a great learning facility to further develop your skills.”

She knew she was coming to a great place but has been pleasantly surprised at what she’s found.

“Every day there’s something new. This clinic is amazing. We offer a wide range of services including nitrous oxide, general anaesthesia, crown work and root canals. It’s a great team of oral health therapists we can work with on more complicated cases.”

Dr Grace is keen to expand her skills in paediatric dentistry. Her love of children comes from having five younger siblings, as well as 42 cousins in her home country of Fiji.

“It’s a great skill to have to be able to communicate with kids by playing games and keeping them engaged,” she said.

Dr Grace is promoting World Oral Health Day today (March 20), urging everyone to “Brush and Boogie”.

This year’s theme is “A happy mouth is a happy body”. To keep your mouth happy you should use fluoridated toothpaste and brush for at least two minutes.

An easy way to make that two minutes go quickly is to Brush and Boogie – put on your favourite song and start and end the day with a brush and boogie like no-one is watching.
